Celebrating its 37th year, the 2025 MCAS Cherry Point Commander’s Cup Golf Tournament is one of the oldest in our region and one of the largest in the tri-county area. This year’s event will take place Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4-5. The registration deadline is Friday, Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. or when the maximum number of players (100) is reached, whichever happens first. The tournament is open to all civilian and military players with a current USGA handicap.

Tournament festivities will begin with the traditional "Pairing Party" on Friday, Oct. 3 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Miller's Landing, our exceptional banquet facility located adjacent to the golf course. Enjoy heavy hors d'oeuvres and cold beverages, while meeting your teammates and competitors for the weekend.

Saturday's tournament format will be “Best Ball” using the best two net balls of the foursome. Sunday's format will be “Superball.” Teams will be formed using a computerized blind draw system. We reserve the option to rank all participants into their A, B, C, and D categories by golf ability using their United States Golf Association (USGA) handicaps as the key criteria.

Saturday's first-round play will consist of a shotgun start at 9 a.m. (we reserve the option to have an afternoon start based upon the size of the field). Each golfer will enjoy a meal before and after their scheduled round regardless of their tee time.

Play will resume Sunday at 9 a.m. All participants are invited to dinner and the awards ceremony following the conclusion of tournament play.

How do I get base access if I am not an authorized patron?

• For golfers without base access, please contact Karl Thurber at (252) 466-3044 before Wednesday, Oct. 1 at noon.

What is the cost to participate?

• $160 for Sound of Freedom Golf Course members and active duty. $180 for non-members. 

What does the registration fee include?

• Pairing party, tournament play, free practice round on Friday (cart not included), meals, goody bags.

Are rental clubs available?

• Yes, rental clubs are available for $25 payable at the golf course.
