Clear Your Cabinet, Secure the Force
Personal readiness and protecting our community are 24/7 responsibilities. A simple but critical part of that mission is securing your home environment. That’s why the Marine Corps community is joining the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day to safely remove a key risk from our homes: unused prescription medications.
Proper disposal of prescription medications helps prevent accidental ingestion by children, reduces misuse among teens and adults, and protects water supplies from contamination caused by flushing or improper disposal methods. Proactively disposing of unwanted, unused, or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications can also reduce medication-related suicides and suicide attempts and can help save your life or the life of your loved ones.
Education plays a critical role in preventing prescription drug misuse. While most Marines use prescription medications responsibly for legitimate medical needs, misuse can occur when prescriptions are shared with others. Sharing prescription medications is both illegal and dangerous and can lead to serious health consequences, including injury, addiction, or overdose.
