MCAS Cherry Point Wins Gold Medal for Excellence in Parks and Recreation

Congratulations Cherry Point! In late September, the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration and National Recreation and Park Association awarded its Gold Medal to Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point. The award demonstrates excellence in long-range planning, resource management, and innovative approaches to delivering park and recreation services with fiscally sound business practices. Begun in 1965, it also looks at the many challenges agencies face to deliver community needs and how agencies face those challenges.

MCAS Cherry Point was nominated in the armed services division and chosen from four finalists. “It is an honor to be the 2017 NRPA Armed Forces Gold Medal winner. The hard work and dedication the entire team puts in daily is paramount in supporting the mission of the installation to include offering wonderful recreational facilities and ensuring conservation efforts are mainted, just to name a few.
